Healthy Habit: Homemade Salad Dressings

When we make the decision to eat healthier, we oftentimes add salads to our daily menus. This is a great idea! Salads are a place where we can combine as many vegetables as we desire Homemade Salad Dressingsand incorporate some protein to create a colorful, nutrient dense meal to fuel our bodies.

But then we usually top that beautiful, healthy creation with a not so healthy dressing. There are alternatives. One great habit to establish this new year would be to prepare your own salad dressings at home.

A great base for a healthy homemade dressing can be olive oil and balsamic vinegar. From there, you can get creative, play with flavor combinations and come up with several dressings that you love. This way you never get bored with your salads!

Here are some ideas to get you started:

DIY Balsamic Vinaigrette:

1/3 cup olive oil

2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar

½ tablespoon red wine vinegar

1 clove garlic minced

1 tablespoon lemon juice


Healthy Honey Mustard Dressing:

½ cup plain green yogurt

2 tablespoons yellow mustard

1 ½ tablespoons raw honey

1 tablespoon lemon juice


Homemade Lemon Vinaigrette:

1/3 cup olive oil

Juice of 1 lemon

2 teaspoon raw honey

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1 small garlic clove minced
